"The Great Gatsby": A Modern Movie Portrayal of Prohibition

It is through reading or watching "The Great Gatsby" in school that majority of us learned about Prohibition. In "The Great Gatsby", we see lavish parties, moral "looseness" and the iconic flapper - all imagery we associate with the "Roaring 20s",but I believe this story lead to an unrealistic idea of Prohibition and the lives that were lead during that time. It depicts the "Roaring 20s," as a time in American history full of economic prosperity and rapid social and cultural change, but fails to highlight the true corruption and violence of the era.
